![]() You can generate hulls in a number of basic shapes such as spheres, cylinders, boxes, etc. It can also import STL files, which are popular for 3D models. Conversion of Minecraft IDs to StarMade IDs is user configurable. And SMEdit is very good at importing binvox files. (Please upload samples of any breaking files to the issue tracker.) The binvox tool does a very good job at converting OBJ and other formats to its' own binvox format. It supports OBJ files, but it is a little fragile to deviations from the OBJ spec. SMEdit can import ships designed for other systems. Yet another one lets you add lettering from any font installed on your computer. Another tool lets you paint a variety of "stripes" on the ship. There are tools to selectively replace colors across the whole ship or a selection of the ship. So you can concentrate on designing in the game, and paint it later. SMEdit lets you "paint" an existing design. Specific quantities of specific hull elements have to be bought in advance. Giving a ship a color scheme has to be thought out in advance in the in-game editor. SMEdit lets you move the core, or rotate the ship around the core. Correcting this is virtually impossible in the in-game editor. Or end up building the ship facing the wrong way. People often make regrettable decisions when placing their ship's core. The features developed for that reflect this. It is designed to complement the in-game editor, not replace it. The objective of SMEdit is to provide a tool that does things that are very hard to do in the in-game editor.
