To improve our App for you, we regularly bring updates to the App Store with improvements for both speed and reliability. Available on iPhone and Android, Google’s contest-winning translator can translate sentences between 103 different languages. It is also capable of copying and sharing translated texts through email, SMS. Some languages work better than others, while the app is more accurate if it's able to use your Wi-Fi or mobile connection to pull translations from over the net. It can translate text messages, voice, as well as conversational translations. As each person speaks, the screen clears to show only what's just been said, but you can scroll down to review your past chat history. You can edit the phrase by hand if it's incorrect – tap the green pen and type the correct one. Sing, beatbox, hum or whistle your ideas and Dubler 2 will translate them into MIDI notes. A PRO account unlocks access to a large and growing collection of features including Voice, Camera, Offline, Keyboard Translation and many more. It's simple to use: fire up the app and grant access to your mic when prompted. The Translate app has a simple, easy to use interface that allows you to select languages to translate to and from at the top, and options to either type (or paste) text to be translated or speak. There's no typing involved – it's all done with the power of your voice, and by passing your iOS device back and forth or using the AirTranslate feature if both of you happen to have iTranslate Voice installed on your corresponding mobiles, you can more than get by. Of course, we can't all afford to pay for someone's services, but iTranslate Voice attempts – with some success – to fill the gap and turn your iPhone or iPad into a bona-fide translation tool. About to head off to a foreign country and need help with the local lingo? Need to speak to someone in an unfamiliar language? You could, of course, load up with phrase books and attempt to muddle by, or even try to learn the basics before you go, but there's no substitute for having a proper translator smooth things over and make yourself understood. ![]() ![]() The preimage of a concave hexagon is translated to the right then reflected across the line of reflection to produce the final image shown above.Given a point O and a point P. Reflections across the line y = xĪ reflection across the line y = x switches the x and y-coordinates of all the points in a figure such that (x, y) becomes (y, x). Triangle DEF is formed by reflecting ABC across the y-axis and has vertices D (4, -6), E (6, -2) and F (2, -4). y-axis reflectionĪ reflection across the y-axis changes the position of the x-coordinate of all the points in a figure such that (x, y) becomes (-x, y). ![]() Triangle DEF is formed by reflecting ABC across the x-axis and has vertices D (-6, -2), E (-4, -6) and F (-2, -4). x-axis reflectionĪ reflection across the x-axis changes the position of the y-coordinate of all the points in a figure such that (x, y) becomes (x, -y). Reflections in coordinate geometryīelow are three examples of reflections in coordinate plane. This is true for the distances between any corresponding points and the line of reflection, so line l is also a line of symmetry. Points A, B, and C on the pentagon are reflected across line l to A', B', and C'. Let line l be a line of reflection for the pentagon above. Whenever you reflect a figure across a line of reflection that is also a line of symmetry, each point on the figure is translated an equal distance across the line of symmetry, back on to the figure. You can think of folding half of the image of the butterfly across the line of reflection back on to its other half. The same result occurs if the left side of the butterfly is reflected across line l, so line l is also a line of symmetry. Reflecting the right side of the butterfly across line l maps it to the butterfly's left side. Reflection symmetryĪ line of reflection is also a line of symmetry if a geometric shape or figure can be reflected across the line back onto itself. This is true for any corresponding points on the two triangles. A, B, and C are the same distance from the line of reflection as their corresponding points, D, E, and F. In the figure above, triangle ABC is reflected across the line to form triangle DEF. For a 3D object, each point moves the same distance across a plane of refection. In a reflection of a 2D object, each point on the preimage moves the same distance across a line, called the line of reflection, to form a mirror image of itself. ![]() The term "preimage" is used to describe a geometric figure before it has been transformed and the term "image" is used to describe it after it has been transformed. ![]() ![]() A reflection is a rigid transformation, which means that the size and shape of the figure does not change the figures are congruent before and after the transformation. To quote Mick Talbot talking to me on The Paul Weller Fan Podcast “We found that the video was a powerful promotional tool for music we believed in, but we thought there’s a lot of hanging about, surely we can invent some stupid storyline where we dress up in something even stupider than the last one, and do something a bit far fetched, or pretend that we’re sort of international milk-race champions, or we’re a couple of Cambridge dons punting up the Cam and just things that were quite extremely away from what we really were, but just something to kill the time while you’re filming, because it’s astonishing how much you have to do just to get 3 minutes in the can.” We had the rocking chair, piano on the bus, coloured scribbling on video frame, freezing fun of the Malvern Hills for Speak Like a Child, the Woking Football Club disco, lambretta crashing, subtitling, Mick has pulled? craziness of Solid Bond in My Heart, the ear tickling, Weller top-off picnic, huge stereo listening, Cambridge punting erotic masterpiece that is Long Hot Summer through to the Dennis Munday Break-Dancing joy that is Big Boss Groove and the Paul and Mick Tour De Fabulousness that is My Ever Changing Moods… I could go on… The band took their music seriously, the live performance was clearly very special, but they also understood that the promo video was a bit of a silly nonsense and they pushed the boundaries with their art on film. The bands videos were silly, playful and above all fun. ![]() It’s fair to say that they messed with the genre with each single release in a time when serious rock and pop promos were all the thing.
